Your Child's Best Advocate

If you think your child is smarter, more intuitive or gifted than you were as a kid, you are probably right. Kids born in the last decade or so are wired differently, and for good reason. The world is different now than it was when we were born!
This wiring has many gifts that come with it. Our kids are empathic, kind, loving, creative and wise beyond their years.
This wiring can also bring challenges with it. In the classroom, your child may be labeled as a kid who is spacey, unfocused or a poor test taker. They may be diagnosed with an SPD, ADD, OCD, ODD, dyslexia, dyscalculia, dysgraphia or Aspergers.
The issue with these gifts and challenges is that schools don’t understand them. Even though our kids have changed, our educational system hasn’t changed fast enough.
This isn’t a knock on teachers or even administrators. It’s a wake up call for our society. Teachers need to be paid more. Teachers need more support and assistants in the classroom. Private schools, in particular, need better access to the most up to date teaching strategies possible. Our entire educational system needs an overhaul, and fast.
This is where you step in. You are your child’s biggest advocate. You have the intuition to help you make the best decisions possible for your child. How can you advocate for them?
🌟 Get them tested so you can speak up for their specific needs. A child with dysgraphia may have different needs than one with a Sensory Processing Disorder.
🌟 Meet with like-minded parents so you can develop a support system. If enough people speak up, a school is more likely to make changes.
🌟 Keep lines of communication open with your child’s teacher. It’s my belief that you can say anything with kindness.
🌟 Don’t be afraid to share what you have learned at home and through testing with your child’s teacher. Most teachers really do want to help!
We are blessed now to have so many resources at our fingertips. Use them. Talk with someone who has been in your shoes. Listen to your inner guidance. Your kids are here to change the world and it’s educational system. They just need your help to do so.
